The Mural Painting in the Chapel of the Holly Cross

This bachelor thesis focuses on the mural paintings located in the three window niches of the Chapel of the Holly Cross in Karlštejn castle. Part One of this thesis examines the literature concerning Karlštejn castle and the mural paintings located inside, and interprets the opinions and critical appraisals of past and present researchers. Part Two briefly introduces and describes the other mural paintings of Karlštejn castle, and outlines the complex iconography of the entire castle, which weaves together all the sacred spaces of the castle, culminating in the Chapel in the Great Tower. Part Three analyses in detail the individual scenes depicted in the three niches of the Chapel of the Holly Cross, their iconography and authorship, and evaluates the restoration efforts carried out in the last century. The primary aim of this thesis is to introduce the topic of these mural paintings, together with a critical evaluation of the literature, sources, restoration reports and historical surveys related thereto.

The mural paintings in Karlštejn castle in the light of the restoration effects This thesis focuses on the mural paintings located in Karlštejn castle. These mural paintings form a complex iconography of the entire castle, which weaves together all the sacred spaces of the castle, culminating in the Chapel in the Great Tower. The thesis deals with the mural paintings situated in two chapels in the first floor of the Imperial palace, so-called the Hall of Ancestors, where the genealogy of Charles IV. originally decorated this hall, the Church of the Virgin Mary and the Chapel of Saint Catherine inside the Marian Tower, on the walls of the staircase and in the Chapel of the Holy Cross, inside the Great Tower, not only in the light of the restoration effects, which may have affected and influenced the original appearance. Tracking of the origin of the re- paintings, followed by an iconographical analysis, draws from the restoration reports and archives connected with the last major reconstruction of the castle, which was led from Vienna by architects Fridrich Schmidt and Josef Mocker. I analyse their iconography and authorship, and evaluate the restoration efforts carried out in the last centuries. Church of the Beheading of st. John the Baptist in Hostivař

1 Abstract The topic of my bachelor thesis is the medieval St. John the Baptist church in Hostivař, Prague. A precious relict has been recently uncovered in its apse in form of paintings from the second half of 13th century, namely the Majestas Domini composition. My thesis forms a summary of existing findings concerning the church, creating a comprehensive document about the building which has not yet been written. The Mural Paintings in the Church of St. James the Greater in Křeč The submitted bachelor thesis "The Mural Paintings in the Church of St. James the Greater in Křeč" focuses on the basic introduction to the mural Passion cycle from the first half of 14th century in Křeč. The first chapter is focused on basic literature. The next chapter is dedicated to the outlining of historical relationships leading to the creation of this cycle. The third chapter si dedicated to building history and the equipment of church and the other one is about the art-historical context of this period. The fifth chapter is related the mural paintings itself. Concisely summarizes basic description and the history and the present condition of mural paintings. The other chapters are focused on individual scenes of the Passion cycle and their analogies. This bachelor thesis is comprehensive monograph which is based on the available literature. Medieval Mural Paintings in Southwest Bohemia (Districts Klatovy, Prachatice, Strakonice) ABSTRACT The thesis focuses on medieval mural paintings preserved in the forty five monuments in the region of southwest Bohemia, i.e. in the three main districts: Klatovy, Prachatice and Strakonice. The core of the thesis is an extensive catologue of the paintings covering the period from the 13th to the 16th centuries which represents first comprehensive treatment of the matter of the region in question. The main focus of the thesis is description of the paintings, their art historical evaluation and complex reconsideration of the literature to the subject including revision of the older proposals. In addition, an introduction of so far neglected, wrongly interpreted and newly discovered paintings contribute to the wide art-historical discussion. Medieval mural painting with legend of Saint Wenceslas in 14th century Thesis presents medieval mural paintings with the illustrations of life and murder of Saint Wenceslas from 14th century. Thesis is focused on summary of the topic literature and afterwards iconographical and formal description of five medieval mural cycles in Karlštejn castle, Dobroměřice, Černochov, Žďár u Blovic and House At the Stone Bell in Prague.
Commandery of the Johanit´s order in Strakonice - building history and mural paintings

The theme of submitted bachelor work called "Commandery of the Johanit´s order in Strakonice - building history and mural paintings" are remarkable high medieval mural paintings from first half of 14th century in the building of former Johanit´s commandery in Strakonice. The work deals in detail with formal and iconographic analysis of mural paintings. Besides iconographic analysis the work deals with foreign inspirational influences and binding on creation of illuminated manuscripts as well. The work is enriched by outline construction history of the building, history of Johanit´s order and relations between the Johanit´s order and Bavarian noble family.
